The New SEAT Leon

The All New SEAT Leon

The new car is the third Leon since the model was launched in 1998 and has been completely redesigned from the ground up, with a shorter body yet longer wheelbase to increase interior space (boot space is up by 39 litres to 380 litres). New construction techniques and materials are said to have reduced the weight of the car by 90kg compared with the outgoing Leon.

Technical highlights include the availability of full-LED headlights, "premium materials" for the cabin and driver safety devices including a drowsiness detection feature, automatic switching between dipped and full beam lights, and lane keeping assistance.

All engines in the Leon range will feature direct injection and turbocharging. Petrol-powered options include a 1.2-litre unit with 85bhp or 104bhp, a 1.4-litre with 120bhp and a 1.8-litre with 178bhp. Diesel models range from an 89bhp 1.6-litre capable of 74.3mpg on the EU Combined cycle and emitting just 99g/km of CO2, to a 2.0-litre developing 181bhp. Gearbox options range from five- and six-speed manual systems to six- and seven-speed twin-clutch autos.
